Reviews of Houmas House & Laura Plantation Combo with Optional Lunch

Two different tales of plantation life done very well!
When I got to the area I knew I wanted to do a plantation tour but with so many choices it was hard to decide on the one that I wanted to do. I chose these because of the different histories that each had. Started the day off at Houmas House and the grounds were absolutely breathtaking, we went on our tour of the house and our guide was such a fun and entertaining lady, she had the entire group laughing. This property was different from the other in the fact that someone actively lives in the house and you are allowed to touch and walk into most every room there. It had a few things that might not have been in that specific home but the guide explained that while not in that home specifically the different murals and what-nots were period correct for a home of that type. They explained some stories about a film shot there and about how the family would have lived, as well as discussing the possibility of the property being haunted!! It was a greatly exciting and fun tour we will be sure to return. We grabbed a bite to eat after and really enjoyed our meal, the bisque was AMAZING and the po boy was bigger than my friends head!! Next, we headed off to Laura Plantation for the second part of our day. While there was a drive from one to the other it is in a nice area where there are active sugar fields all around. Pulling up to Laura you can see that it is a different type of home, where Houmas was more showy Laura was very rich in her history. You could tell our guide really knew her stuff and she was respectful of the families that lived there, telling their story in a great way. You start in the "big house" and they explain how the families changed from one generation to the next, then you move out to the back of the property where the original slave homes are still standing...It was very moving. You learn that the childhood story of Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby was written on the property by one of the slaves that resided there. Overall both properties were wonderful and the history of each very different so it was a great choice to see these 2 together. I definitely recommend this combo trip to anyone wanting to see different sides of the plantation life!

Double plantation your
Everything was great. I thought you were offering a deal but booking through you. The pricing was the same if we would have purchased they tickets at each site. There was no savings from your side.

Worth The Price
The tour and buffet at Houmas were exceptional. The Laura tour was very interesting. My only complaint would be that these tours should be limited to 15 people. There were probably 25 in our groups, and at the Laura Home especially the rooms were very crowded and it was hard to take pictures

Great Tours and Tour Guides
Suzanna was such a delightful tour guide at Houmas House. Not only was she informative, but sweet, polite, and patient towards all of her guests. The garden was so beautiful and serene. So many photo opportunities. We were hoping for one of the many dragon flies to rest on our shoulders for good luck, but that didn’t happen. Instead, we settled for some dragon fly souvenirs from their cute gift shop. Their gift shop has a great selection of books and children's gifts, as well. We purchased a Louisiana cookbook, which was recommended by one of the sales associates, for my mother-in-law. My husband and I had been to the Laura Plantation before, during our last visit to NOLA, but this was a special birthday trip for my mother-in-law and we wanted her to experience Laura Plantation because it reminded my husband of where they were raised on Guam. Joseph, our tour guide, was very, very knowledgeable and was great at putting everything into perspective in today’s world. In fact, my husband and I enjoyed this visit better than our first. We learned so much more this time around.

Enjoyable
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my wife. What a wonderful way to recall the joys of Christmas while enjoying the history and heritage that is ours. Everything was as advertised with no glitches or unpleasant surprises. Looking forward to our next adventure with Shock Tour.

Would visit again
I really enjoyed visiting the plantations. The tour guides was very informative. Parking for a RV was a plus. I got the combo admission and added the buffet. Houmas House does not have buffet in the month September, but they did let us chose from the restaurant menu. The food was excellent!

It was a wonderful day!
We had a wonderful day. The guide that was supposed to be for our tour called in sick so we were lucky to get a gentlemen that bought the artwork and was very involved in the home! He was terrific. He was as you would expect very knowledgeable and passionate about his job. We learned so much. This was at Houmas House. Lunch then was well worth the money and spectacular! Laura Plantation, our guide was Joseph and he too was just the very best we could have hoped for. Both plantations were so different one from another and that's what made it all the better!

Hounds House/ Laura
Lunch at the Carriage House Restaurant was delicious. We had crab mango cakes, house salad, New Orleans seafood pasta dish. Lemonade had a funny taste. Tour guide, Danielle, was friendly but seemed too laid back and modern for a historic tour. Beautiful gardens!! Laura plantation very educational. Tour guide very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. Enjoyed the tour. Ticket agent (pregnant lady) was friendly and helpful- made us feel welcomed! Had to change the time of our tour and they were very accommodating!
