While there's no single "best" month for deep sea fishing in Florida, many anglers consider the fall, especially October, to be the sweet spot. Summer is incredibly popular because of Gulf red snapper season, which typically begins around Memorial Day weekend and runs through the end of July, with additional fall and holiday fishing days in recent years.
October offers an outstanding combination of comfortable temperatures, lighter crowds, and generally calmer seas as the intense summer heat fades. It's also one of the most diverse months for offshore fishing. Gulf red snapper season often continues on select fall dates, greater amberjack typically reopens on September 1, and gray triggerfish season also opens in the fall, giving anglers the opportunity to target multiple prized reef species on the same trip.
The only downside to fall fishing is that it coincides with the peak of hurricane season, so weather conditions can occasionally disrupt trips. Even so, when conditions cooperate, October is widely regarded by many captains as one of the best months of the year to fish offshore in Florida thanks to its comfortable weather, calm water, and exceptional variety of species.
