If you're asking me to pick just one time of year, I'd say late spring through early fall, especially May through August. That's when the weather is warm, the Gulf is usually calmer, and the dolphins are incredibly active. You're also much more likely to spot baby dolphins, since calving season peaks during the warmer months. That said, there's really no bad time to go on a dolphin cruise in Destin. The local bottlenose dolphins live here year-round, so your chances of seeing them are excellent no matter when you visit. If you prefer smaller crowds and more comfortable temperatures, September and October are fantastic. The water is still warm from the summer, the weather is pleasant, and the Gulf is often calmer than it is during the peak summer season. So if you're visiting with kids and want that classic summer experience, I'd recommend May through August. If you're looking for a more relaxed trip with great weather and fewer people, September or October is hard to beat.
