Absolutely. I think a lot of people set their expectations based on the photos they see online, where the water looks perfectly clear every single day, but that is just not reality. The water around Destin changes constantly depending on the wind, waves, tides, and even if it rained the day before. You can have a day where the visibility is not perfect and still have an incredible snorkeling trip. You are often looking at fish that are only a few feet away, so you do not need 30ft of visibility to enjoy yourself. I have been out on days when the water looked a little darker from the boat, and once everyone got in, they were still spotting schools of fish, hermit crabs, sea stars, and all kinds of marine life. One thing that helps is going with a local snorkeling charter because the captains know which areas tend to stay clearer under different conditions. If one spot is stirred up, they will often move to another location where the visibility is much better. That is something you simply cannot tell by standing on the beach and looking out at the water. I always tell visitors that if your only goal is getting magazine quality underwater photos, then crystal clear water makes a difference. But if your goal is having fun, seeing marine life, and experiencing something new with your family, slightly cloudy water is rarely a deal breaker. Most people come back talking about the fish they saw and the memories they made, not whether the visibility was 10 or 20ft.
