Bottlenose dolphins live in the waters around Destin year-round, so sightings are possible during every season. While no tour can guarantee dolphin sightings, they are commonly seen in the Destin Harbor, Choctawhatchee Bay, and the nearby Gulf waters.
Several factors can affect visibility, including water conditions, weather, boat traffic, and where dolphins are feeding on a given day. Calm water often makes dolphins easier to spot because their fins and surface activity are more visible. Experienced captains also monitor recent dolphin activity and use their local knowledge to choose areas where sightings are more likely. Dolphins are likely to jump in a tour boat's wake as well.
