When Gulf conditions are rough, many activities on protected waterways remain great alternatives to a beach day. Choctawhatchee Bay dolphin cruises, harbor sightseeing cruises, Crab Island cruises, and some private boat charters may still operate when conditions allow because they travel in calmer inland waters. Visitors can also spend time at The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach Landing Park, or the Destin Harbor Boardwalk, where waterfront dining at places like the Crab Trap or The Gulf, shopping, and entertainment are available without spending the day on the beach. Always check with the tour operator, as weather and water conditions ultimately determine whether trips can safely depart.
