Some Key West activities require more time than visitors expect once walking, parking, and crowds are factored in. Exploring Duval Street and Old Town Key West can easily take several hours because of the shops, galleries, restaurants, and historic sites along the way. Reef snorkeling tours, sunset sailing cruises, dolphin watching tours, and fishing charters also require extra time for check-in, boarding, and safety briefings before departure. Visiting Mallory Square for the nightly sunset celebration or taking the Dry Tortugas National Park ferry are additional experiences that can occupy much more of the day than first-time visitors often anticipate. Planning fewer activities each day usually results in a more relaxed Key West experience.
