While dolphins are the most sought-after wildlife in Key West, many visitors overlook other marine animals that are commonly seen on the water. Southern stingrays, sea turtles, nurse sharks, tarpon, spotted eagle rays (seasonally), and large schools of tropical fish are regularly spotted during snorkeling tours, eco tours, kayak excursions, and private boat charters. Seabirds such as pelicans, frigatebirds, ospreys, and herons are also common along the shoreline and can often signal areas where fish are active. Looking beyond dolphins often leads to a much richer wildlife experience in the waters around Key West.
