Although they're connected by the same barrier island, the atmosphere is noticeably different. The central areas of St. Pete Beach are generally busier, with larger hotels, more public beach access points, and a wider selection of restaurants and beach bars. Pass-a-Grille Beach has a quieter, more residential feel with historic cottages, smaller inns, local shops, and a walkable downtown along 8th Avenue. Many visitors spend the day at the main beach before heading to Pass-a-Grille for dinner, shopping, or a sunset walk. Visiting both areas gives you a good sense of the different personalities found along the southern end of the Pinellas barrier islands.
