The good news is that it is very rare for nobody to catch anything, especially with an experienced Destin captain, but it can happen from time to time because that is simply the nature of fishing. Fish do not always cooperate, even when everything seems perfect. What I have noticed over the years is that the better captains rarely stay in one place hoping the bite will improve. If the action slows down, they will usually change spots, switch bait, adjust the depth, or even target a different species if they think it will give everyone a better chance. They are constantly trying to put you in the best possible position to catch fish. If you happen to have one of those rare tough days, I would first see if the captain made an effort to move spots or change things up during the trip. I would also see if he tried to keep the group out longer to show that he is making a great effort. If not, talk to the office manager or booking agents to see if there is an opportunity to join a trip in the future for a reduced rate. Read the recent reviews and look for comments about the captain moving around, staying positive, and doing everything possible to find fish. Those are usually the trips that leave people with great memories, regardless of how many fish end up in the box.
