That really depends on the weather, but overall I think fall is one of the more comfortable times of the year to head offshore in Destin. Once you get into September, October, and November, you often start seeing longer stretches of calm weather, and the Gulf can be surprisingly smooth. I have been offshore on fall mornings where the ride out felt like cruising across a lake. Of course, that is not always the case. Cold fronts begin moving through during the fall, and when one is approaching or has just passed, the Gulf can become much rougher for a day or 2. That is why local captains pay such close attention to the marine forecast before every trip. If conditions are too rough, they are not going to risk taking guests offshore. If you are someone who gets seasick easily, I actually think fall is a great time to fish because you are more likely to catch those calm weather windows than you are during some other parts of the year. I still recommend taking motion sickness medication if you know you are sensitive because it is always easier to prevent it than deal with it once the boat is moving. One thing I always tell visitors is not to judge the forecast by looking at the beach. The water can look perfectly calm from shore but be much different several miles offshore. Trust your captain because they spend hundreds of days on the water every year and know exactly when conditions are comfortable and when it is better to stay closer to land. That local knowledge is one of the biggest advantages of booking with an experienced Destin charter.
