Many renters assume that having a driver's license is all they need, but depending on your age, you may also need to complete a boating safety course or carry proof that you have met Florida's boating education requirements. In Florida, you do not need a traditional boating license to rent a pontoon boat. However, if you were born on or after January 1, 1988, you must have a Boating Safety Education Identification Card to operate a boat with 10 horsepower or more, which includes most pontoon boats.
