Once you are out there, you start noticing a lot of smaller wildlife activity that tours sometimes mention in passing but do not always highlight. Birds are the most constant presence. Pelicans are everywhere. They will glide low over the water and dive for fish, and that alone gets a lot of attention because it happens so close to the shoreline. You will also see gulls and terns moving in groups, especially when there is feeding activity going on. In calmer shallows, people sometimes spot stingrays moving just under the sand. Fish activity is more subtle but still noticeable if the water is clear, especially near sandbars where schools move in and out with the tide. Every once in a while, sea turtles are spotted offshore, but that is more rare and usually quick before they disappear again. The island and surrounding water are constantly active, so even when dolphins are not around, there is still a steady flow of other wildlife that adds to the experience.
