Before their flight, many people think there is some complicated process where they have to time their steps perfectly or brace for a sudden impact. What usually happens is much easier. As the boat crew brings you back in, you gradually descend toward the platform on the boat. The process is controlled and steady rather than abrupt. For nervous flyers, the landing is often easier because by that point, they already know what the experience feels like. The uncertainty is gone. During takeoff, you are wondering what to expect. During landing, you have already spent several minutes in the air and have confidence in the equipment and crew.
