While dolphins get all the attention, there is actually a lot more going on out there that people miss if they are only looking for fins. Pelicans diving, gulls circling, and herons hanging around the shallows give you a good sense of where the food chain is active. On calmer days, you can sometimes spot stingrays moving under the surface, especially in the clearer back bay areas around Orange Beach. Sea turtles have also been spotted from a distance. Occasionally, you might notice larger fish breaking the surface when the bait is thick.
