The back bays around Orange Beach contain natural sandbars, grass flats, dredged navigation channels, and tidal areas. Water depth can change rapidly over short distances, which is why marked channels are important when navigating unfamiliar waters. Outside the channel, shallow areas may not always be obvious from the surface.
