Orange Beach's bays and backwaters include numerous shallow flats, sandbars, and grass beds that can make navigation challenging outside designated routes. Marked channels identify deeper water that is maintained or commonly used for boat traffic, helping operators travel safely between marinas, islands, waterfront restaurants, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Staying within marked channels also helps reduce the risk of running aground in unfamiliar areas.
