Duval Street is fun for the energy and walking around, but the things that are really worth stepping away for in Key West are the water experiences. Anything that gets you out on the water is the biggest upgrade from just staying in town. Boat tours, snorkeling trips, sandbar runs, or even a sunset cruise all give you a totally different view of the island that you cannot get while you are walking around bars and shops. I have seen a lot of people spend their first day just on Duval and think they have seen Key West, then they go on a boat the next day and realize that is where the real Key West moment happens.
