There is no perfect “guaranteed” time for dolphins in Key West, but there are definitely better windows that give you a stronger chance. Early morning is your best bet overall. The water is calmer, there is less boat traffic, and dolphins are often more active and easier to spot. Late afternoon into sunset can also be really good. The dolphins do not just suddenly show up more. However, you are out there longer and covering different areas during a more active part of the day. Sometimes you catch them feeding or moving through certain channels, but it is still very much a nature thing, not a scheduled event. Midday is the most unpredictable, just because the water is busier and conditions change a bit more with heat and traffic, but you can still absolutely see them then as well.
