Much of 30A has been planned around preserving the area's natural landscape, including longleaf pine forests, scrub oak, coastal dune lakes, and protected dune systems. Building height restrictions in many communities have also helped maintain a lower-profile skyline than neighboring beach destinations. As a result, many roads along 30A are shaded by mature trees rather than lined with high-rise condominiums.
