It depends on the type of boat tour you book, but most trips around Santa Rosa Beach have a balance, so you will not feel like you are constantly stopping or constantly moving. A dolphin cruise or sightseeing tour usually spends most of the trip cruising through Choctawhatchee Bay while the captain looks for dolphins, points out wildlife, and takes you through different parts of the bay. If dolphins show up, the captain will often slow down or idle for a few minutes so everyone has a chance to watch and take pictures, but you are not anchoring for long periods. On the other hand, if you book something like a pontoon rental or a sandbar trip, the experience is a bit different. You will spend enough time cruising to enjoy the ride, then anchor in a calm spot where you can swim, float, or just relax before heading back.
