The first thing I would do in Sandestin is get out on the water pretty quickly. A bay cruise or dolphin tour is the best starting point. It gives you a way to see the area, and it instantly helps you understand how everything is laid out between the bay, the beaches, and the marina side of things. What I like about starting there is that it sets the tone for the rest of your trip. A lot of people show up and spend the first day walking around, trying to figure out what to do, but once they get out on the water, everything clicks a little faster. You see the sandbars, the water color, and how active the boating scene is. After that, you can go back and enjoy the beach or explore Baytowne Wharf, because you already got that big picture experience out of the way.
