Summer is definitely a book ahead situation, especially for anything on the water. Most dolphin cruises, pontoon rentals, and sunset boat trips start filling up several days in advance, and during peak weeks like late June through early August or holiday weekends, the popular time slots can be gone about 3 to 7 days ahead. For the most in demand times like late morning or sunset, it is not unusual for those to be the first to disappear. The closer you get to the same day in the summer, the more you are essentially taking whatever is left instead of picking the time that you liked best. If you are visiting in the slower shoulder months, like early spring or fall, it is a lot more flexible. You can often book a day or two ahead, and sometimes even the same day, depending on the weather and availability.
