If you have your own boat, absolutely bring it to Destin. A lot of locals and visitors do, and it is one of the best ways to experience the area. There are several public boat launches to choose from depending on where you are staying. Destin Marina is one of the most convenient because it sits directly across from Crab Island, making it one of the shortest boat rides to the sandbar. The launch fee is typically around $20, although trailer parking is more limited, so arriving early is a good idea. Joe's Bayou Boat Ramp is another favorite and is only a few minutes from Crab Island. It offers multiple launch lanes, plenty of trailer parking, and costs about $25 per day. If those ramps are busy, Liza Jackson Park in Fort Walton Beach is a great free alternative with plenty of parking, although it is a longer ride to Destin. Ross Marler Park on Okaloosa Island is another convenient public launch, and Legion Park is a good option if you are staying near Miramar Beach. Before making the trip, make sure your boat registration, trailer, and lights are in good working order, and confirm your vacation rental allows trailer parking. During the summer, get to the ramp early because the most popular launches can fill up before mid morning, especially on weekends.
