That actually comes up more than you would think, and I usually tell people not to build the entire day around something that 1 person is already dreading. Hilton Head is easy because there are plenty of ways for everyone to enjoy themselves without forcing a boat ride. Renting bikes is probably my favorite option since the island has miles of shaded paths that connect beaches, parks, restaurants, and places like Harbour Town and Shelter Cove. Everyone can ride at their own pace, stop whenever they feel like it, and there is no pressure to keep moving. Another good plan is spending part of the day at the beach where some people can swim or walk the shoreline while others relax under an umbrella or read a book. I have also seen families split the day for a couple of hours, with the boat lovers taking a dolphin cruise while everyone else explores the shops, grabs lunch, or enjoys the marina, then everybody meets back up afterward. Nobody feels like they sacrificed their vacation that way. The nice thing about Hilton Head is that it has a slower pace than a lot of beach destinations, so you are not expected to pack every hour with activities. Some of the best days I have seen were the ones where people mixed a little beach time, an easy bike ride, a waterfront meal, and a walk around the marina. Everyone ended up having fun, even though they all liked different kinds of activities.
