Hilton Head followed a different development philosophy that prioritized preserving natural landscapes over concentrating entertainment in one beachfront district. Rather than one central boardwalk, the island offers beaches connected to parks, bike paths, nature preserves, golf courses, and individual communities such as Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes.
