Hilton Head experiences some of the largest tidal changes on the East Coast, which dramatically changes the appearance of its beaches throughout the day. At low tide, wide stretches of firm sand are exposed, making the beach popular for biking, long walks, shell hunting, and beach games. At high tide, the shoreline becomes narrower, creating a different beach experience even though you're visiting the same location.
