If you only have 1 afternoon in St Petersburg, I would keep it simple and make it feel like a true Florida water focused experience instead of trying to cram a bunch of different stops in. The best way to spend it is usually starting with something on the water like a dolphin cruise or a small sightseeing boat tour through the bay and Intracoastal areas because it gives you the biggest payoff in a short window. You are out there for a couple of hours, everything is handled for you, and you still get wildlife, bridges, and shoreline views without needing to plan anything complicated or deal with traffic between spots.
After that, I would head back and keep the rest of the afternoon easy near the beach or waterfront. St Pete Beach itself is perfect for just settling in, walking the shoreline, or grabbing a casual drink or bite near the water. If you are closer to downtown St Petersburg, areas around the Pier are also great because you can walk around, sit by the water, and let the breeze cool things down while you take in the views.
