One of the easiest ways to get that feel is spending time around the smaller marina areas or waterfront parks where you see locals fishing, boating, or just hanging out by the water without any kind of schedule. It is a slower pace and not built around tours or big crowds. The beach itself can also feel very local if you step just a little away from the main public access points. Early morning or later in the evening, especially, you will see people walking dogs, fishing in the surf, or just sitting quietly instead of the busier midday crowd that is more visitor focused. It changes the whole feel of it. Areas like Gulfport just a short drive away also tend to feel more authentic because it is more of a small arts and waterfront community vibe, with local restaurants, a little pier, and people just spending time outdoors without it being built around attractions. Same thing with some of the neighborhood beach bars and casual spots where people show up straight from the water and stay relaxed instead of dressed up for anything.
