When it gets windy around St Pete Beach, boat tours usually do not just stop running right away, but they often adjust how the trip is handled depending on the conditions. The captains are on the water every day, so they are very familiar with how quickly the bay and nearshore areas can change when the wind picks up. In many cases, instead of canceling, they will change the route and stay more inside protected waters like Boca Ciega Bay or the Intracoastal side where it is calmer and more comfortable for guests. That usually means you might not go as far out toward open Gulf areas, but you still get a full experience with dolphins, shoreline views, and sightseeing in smoother water. If conditions are mild to moderate wind, most tours continue as scheduled because the boats are built for it and the routes are flexible. It is more about comfort than cancellation in those situations. Where you see changes or cancellations is when winds combine with rough chop or storms, because safety always comes first. In those cases, trips may be delayed, rerouted, or sometimes rescheduled entirely.
