The waters surrounding Shell Island provide an ideal habitat for bottlenose dolphins because of abundant fish, protected bays, and nearby Gulf access. Dolphins often feed where tidal currents move baitfish through the passes, making the island one of the most reliable wildlife viewing areas near Panama City Beach.
