It depends on recent tides, weather, and where shells have naturally collected, but many visitors begin finding shells shortly after arriving on Shell Island. Those hoping to find larger or less-picked-over shells often choose to walk farther down the beach, away from the main drop-off area where most guests gather. Because shell deposits change constantly with winds and tides, no single stretch of beach is always the "best," and exploring a little farther often improves your chances.
