Yes, there is a difference, and it comes down to how you want your day at Shell Island. On a larger tour boat, the experience is more structured. You are usually on a set schedule, you leave with a group, and the captain decides where everyone stops and how long you stay. The ride itself is usually smooth and relaxing, and you tend to get dropped off in a common area where everyone else is. You just get on, enjoy the ride, and go with the flow. A pontoon is different. You control when you leave, where you anchor, and how long you stay in each spot. The tradeoff is that you are doing a bit more of the work, like handling anchoring, watching weather, and staying aware of boat traffic around you.
