There are shallow areas where people who are not strong swimmers can still enjoy the water. A lot of the shoreline where the shuttle drops you off starts off very gradual, so you can walk out quite a bit and still be in knee to waist deep water for a good stretch, depending on tide and where the boat anchors that day. That is usually where families gather because it feels calm and easy to stand, chat, and let kids splash around without anyone needing to fully swim. What helps is that the water stays clear most days, so you can actually see the sand under your feet, which makes people feel more comfortable even if they are not confident swimmers. If you move a little farther down the beach, you will still find similar shallow pockets, especially on the bay side, but it just spreads out more and feels less clustered. There are also little sandbar type areas that pop up where the water can stay shallow for a decent distance.
