If someone in your group is nervous about heights, most parasailing crews are actually good about easing them into it, so it is not usually this quick jump where you are suddenly gone off the back of the boat. What normally happens is there is a bit of a slowdown right before takeoff, where the crew gets you harnessed, checks everything twice, and gives you a minute to get comfortable with how it all feels while you are still on the deck. When it is time to go up, the lift itself is actually very gradual, not a sudden drop or jerk, so most people do not feel that instant shock they are worried about. Crews around here are used to first timers, so they will often talk you through what is happening right as you are lifting. If someone is really uneasy, they will keep the height on the lower side at first and let them settle in before going higher, instead of immediately sending them up to full height.
