You do not go extremely far offshore before parasailing actually starts. It is a short boat ride out to a safe open stretch where there is enough space, stable wind, and less shoreline traffic. Most of the time, it is just far enough to clear the busier nearshore areas so the crew has clean water and predictable wind to work with, then they set everything up and launch from there rather than going deep into open water first. Keep in mind that if the water near shore is calm and boat traffic is light, they might start closer in and get people in the air pretty quickly after leaving the dock. On busier summer days or when there are more waves and mixed boat wakes, they will often run a little farther out to find a smoother pocket before they start flying anyone, because that makes takeoff and landing more controlled. Wind direction also plays a big role, since they want the chute positioned where it stays stable instead of getting pushed around near crowded areas.
