The part that changes everything for nervous people is the first 30 seconds after they leave the boat. Before takeoff, most of the anxiety comes from not knowing what it is going to feel like, but once the parachute fills and they start lifting, people realize it is nothing like a roller coaster or a thrill ride. The climb is slow, steady, and much quieter than they expected, and that alone takes away a lot of the tension. Another thing that helps is watching a few other people go first. By the time it is their turn, they have already seen how the takeoff and landing are. The crew also does a good job of providing reassurance while they are getting everyone into the harness. They will be answering questions and talking people through what is about to happen.
