Yes, you can be stopped by marine law enforcement on the water just as a driver can be stopped on the road. Officers can enforce boating-under-the-influence laws, life-jacket requirements, reckless-operation rules, no-wake zones, registration and other boating regulations. Renting the boat does not transfer responsibility for your behavior to the rental company. Keep required rental paperwork aboard and make sure the designated operator understands the rules before leaving the dock.
