Stop the boat immediately, keep the person in sight, and get flotation to them rather than jumping into the water after them yourself. Alert everyone onboard, shift the engine to neutral when approaching the person, and use a throwable flotation device or life jacket to help keep them above water. If the person is struggling, unconscious, missing, or cannot be safely recovered, call 911 immediately and be prepared to give your location using GPS, channel markers, or nearby landmarks.
