Damage deposits for jet ski rentals are usually handled as a hold on a credit card, but the money is not fully taken out right away OR a cash deposit is held for typically $250-500. The amount can vary by the company, jet ski, and whether you buy damage protection. Most places inspect the jet ski before you leave and again when you come back. They are looking for things like cracks, broken bumpers, damage underneath, rope sucked into the intake, scratches from hitting docks, or signs that it was run too shallow. Normal little scuffs are one thing, but anything that looks fresh or affects the jet ski can become a charge. I would take a quick video or photos at the dock before you ride, especially if you already see marks on it.
