Choose the tiki if your group wants someone else responsible for navigating, anchoring, docking, and getting everyone home from the sandbar. A self-drive pontoon provides more independence, but somebody in your group becomes the boat operator; a captained tiki lets the entire group treat the outing as vacation. Local tiki operators explicitly market that captain-included distinction against DIY pontoon rentals.
