No, although the destinations are close enough that visitors can easily experience both. Okaloosa Island offers the same Emerald Coast beach environment while Fort Walton Beach has its own downtown, museums, parks, attractions, marinas, and boating departures. Destin has the larger harbor-tourism district, but staying in Fort Walton Beach does not mean commuting into Destin every day to have something to do.
