Most dolphin cruises leaving from Pensacola Beach stay in calmer protected water around Pensacola Bay, Santa Rosa Sound, and near Pensacola Pass instead of running far offshore into the Gulf of Mexico. The captain may ride closer to the pass if conditions are good and dolphins are active there, but these trips are more for sightseeing, wildlife watching, and landmark views around places like Fort Pickens than for a rough open water ride.
