Yes, there are jellyfish to watch out for during the summer. Jellyfish, sand fleas, and sharp rocks/shells, and changing currents are the main concerns around Shell Island. A purple beach flag means dangerous marine life has been spotted in the area. We recommend booking a guided tour if you're concernd about marine pests since they will be able to guide you through the waters safely. The Shell Island Dolphin and Snorkel Cruise stops on the calmer bay side, where swimming conditions are easier than along the Gulf shore.
