Hidden peaks Fiji

Bula!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. It was an absolute pleasure to guide you through the beautiful Fijian countryside and share a glimpse of village life with you. Peter and I truly enjoyed having you on the tour, and we’re thrilled that you found it to be a genuine and memorable experience.
That rough road might have tested your sense of adventure, but it’s all part of discovering the untouched beauty of Fiji! Seeing the school kids enjoying their sports day added a special touch to the journey, and I’m glad you got to witness that part of daily life here.
Your recommendation means a lot, and I hope you’ll return someday for another adventure! Vinaka vakalevu!

Chose this tour as we wanted to see something of the ‘real’ Fiji and it didn’t disappoint.
Our guides Ray and Peter were great.
The walk was amazing and even the hour’s drive to get there was worth the rough unsealed roads.
Getting an insight into Village life was an added bonus of the trip and watching the kids at the local school enjoy their sports day was an other colourful addition.
The hike was very doable for anyone with moderate fitness and showcased the true Fijian countryside
Definitely recommend to anyone who loves the outdoors and walking and wants to get away the the tourist areas

A Insight into rural Fiji

Such an incredible experience. My guides were so kind and personable. They took me to the most beautiful hike spots in Fiji and we finished off the trip with an authentic Fijian vegetarian meal. If you’re in Fiji, you need to book this tour. I’ll remember it for a lifetime

The best tour Fiji has to offer

Had a really great time on this hike. Beautiful views and amazing waterfall. Nice way to see Fiji beyond the resorts/ touristy areas. Great experience overall and would recommend.

awesome experience

I loved this adventure ! Surely one of the highlights of my trip in Fiji ! Ray is really nice and brought me to a wonderful secret place in the mountains, to meet locals in a small village, to see wonderful views and sunset. I needed something different than going to the beach and it was just perfect !

Great adventure in a secret paradise

Visiting a local place is not so easy as we think. Thanks to them, we had a chance to see a beautiful and uncontaminated area surrounded by thousands of plants, trees and few animals. The guide knows perfectly where to go even there is no pathway. At the top, the view is marvellous. We were there for the sunset. Little bit harder to come back with no proper lights but everyone can survive. Bring a jumper because it's a bit cold but must be done. Really friendly crew and worth it

Visiting a local place is...

Nausori Highlands is breathtaking. The mountains in Fiji are not marketed as well as the islands, but I highly recommend everyone to do a hike to not only see the stunning views but to also experience the Fijian culture in the local village.

I was given cold water, electrolytes and bars from the tour guides. Once we got to the village in the mountains, the local guide offered fresh coffee and bread. After the hike, we got more bread and traditional lemongrass tea. The description said there was lunch included so be prepared for just snacks. I also thought we were going to see the Waterfall, but we didn't do that either (maybe because of the weather from the previous nignt).

The ride up to the start of the hike is amazing. On the way down, I stood on the back of the pickup truck to take in all the views even more, plus it was a fun way to ride down!

The hike itself is not strenuous. It rained the night before for my group so the trail was a bit muddy and slippery, but it was really easy for me to clean my shoes afterwards.

Post hike, Ray was extremely kind to take me to my AirBnB, wait for me to get changed, then took me to a gym (currently preparing for a tournament so I couldn't take many days off training atm - but proof that the hike is very manageable as I could workout in the same day).

In conclusion, really loved Nausori Highlands - pictures/videos don't do it justice.

Tips:
Wear leggings/light athletic pants (you walk though tall grass/plants most of the way)
Wear mosquito/bug repellent
Eat breakfast

Perfect combination of culture and beauty

Solid hike. Coming
from Canada (Vancouver) where I have done a ton of hikes that are challenging I was bit nervous with the heat and humid. But this one was perfect for weather conditions and Fiji warmer weather.

Solid

This was a truly wonderful experience. The guides were excellent on local information and the lifestyle of the Fijian farmers, their villages and culture. The hike is not too strenuous or too long.

Get out to experience true Fiji

Overall the tour is good because you get to see the village and learn about their way of life and it’s not the usual track in Fiji. Beautiful scenery and the views were amazing.

The guide Peter had many positive reviews yes. That’s exactly the reason why I booked the tour. However, when I was there, I was really abhorred at the hygiene standards and the cup that they used to serve the kava is being used repeatedly which was why I turned down the drink but the guide was unhappy. Yes I respect the culture but at the same time, I would also like to be respected when I do not want to drink it.

He wasn’t interested in showing me the village, no stories exchange no talks no nothing. For the entire trail, he walked 4-5m ahead and it was raining too. I felt that it would have been done better by letting us know in advance what to expect of the route. Luckily I had an umbrella with me.

Through out the entire session, he kept asking me to donate to the village. He has land, owns cattle and has a private waterfall. I really think he is well off enough which was attested by the driver. Donations are non obligatory, why am I coerced into donating? I didn’t have any money with me as I haven’t got a chance to exchange it and he told the driver to drive me to town, exchange and give it to him.

While hiking, we met a Bhutanese family and he went to exchange contact and we stood there while he chatted for 15 mins. If you can’t even do your job when I’ve paid, what makes you think you can do it for others?

I felt like it was a bit of discrimination for Asian clients (tipping is not in our culture) so if he served Caucasian clients he might get a fat tip.

Overall
Ray the owner was amazing, I spoke to him before I posted the review and he gave his word that if I were to revisit, he will take me up the trail personally. I appreciate that because he values the comments! My review is not to put the tour down because it was an amazing tour! It is to let others know that it’s not a comfortable tour and the lunch is prepared by the locals which is mostly vegetarian so if you are not accustomed to it, eat beforehand and after. Also we are not obligated to donate, decline firmly.

Amazing tour but guide needs to be changed

What a gem of an experience! Definitely consider this excursion when on Viti Levu. Stunning views and warm hospitality from Peter and Vikki. We felt so fortunate to meet them and learn about life in the Fijian highlands.

We were picked up at Intercontinental, which is probably the furthest hotel from Peter’s village, but the drive let’s you see so much of the island. Off road part of the drive might be hard for some, but just breathe in the adventure of it all. Hike itself is a little over 5 miles - nothing too steep or difficult. Overall, a wonderful way to experience Fiji! Thank you to Peter and Vikki for making it possible and for sharing your love of your community!

Don’t Miss This Adventurous Gem!

Loved the hike, the guides, the swim in the waterfall too. Then jumping in the ute of the four wheel drive was a fun little bonus. Will do again. Thank you.

Great day out and exposure to the beauty of Fiji mainland

This was a true highlight of our time in Fiji. The hike itself was excellent, probably a medium in terms of difficulty, not hard but a workout for sure. But beyond the hike the best part was meeting Peter, being welcomed into his home and learning about his life as a farmer in a village in Fiji. This trip was as much an authentic cultural experience it was a hiking trip.

In terms of itenary, the trip starts at your hotel and you get spectacular views on the drive up. There's a bit of off roading which was quite fun. Next up you do a Kava ceremony before going on an amazing hike. The hike takes you up to a spectacular view and then through the village. After the hike there's a waterfall you visit which comes from the same water supply that feeds into the village, its refreshing true Fiji water. After that you head back to Peter's house for lunch and then head back to your hotel.

The hike itself was really great as was the waterfall. The lunch after the hike was alright as well, it's vegetarian food that a farmer would typically eat during the week. I'm glad we got to experience an authentic Fiji lunch and the lemongrass tea we had in Peter's home after the hike was probably the best herbal tea I've ever had.

Overall a great experience, fascinating to learn about village life in Fiji and truly special to be welcomed into Peter's home and Village. Both Peter and Ray (the driver/tour operator) made this a great experience and it's awesome to be able to support a local tour company and the village we visited!

An amazing and authentic experience!
