In my opinion, over priced and short. Based on the main house. No history of the rest of the property.

Good tour and tour guide

Wonderful day spent with a true New Orleans native whose family roots went back 300 years. Museum and map room were added delights. A peek into the past.

Houmas House

Our visit to the museum was enjoyable and enlightening. It was especially nice because we were treated to a guided introduction by the curator’s sister who just happened to be in the foyer when we arrived. Her passion and excitement for the displays and artifacts brought history to life.

Worth the time

So we got Patrick! He was very clear and was funny! Made the trip worth it.... BUT the tour itself? Not worth it... just to see the house and that’s it? I thought we’d learn more about the slaves but I guess that’s only the Whitney house.. I wish he website would’ve been more clear about that... but again, Patrick’s enthusiasm, jokes and kindness made it a pleasant experience!!

The gal that did our tour was very nice. They “play” the part of the time period. She was fun and had a great personality. Unfortunately her name escapes me I think it starts with a “B”. The property is absolutely gorgeous. The garden was still beautiful even though it was winter. My 13 year even enjoyed the tour. I think it was worth the money and time.

Gorgeous Place

This plantation was the best one we visited.  The tour guide was wonderful, the atmosphere relaxed, and the gardens beautiful.  The restaurant was very pretty and had great food. Don’t miss this plantation!

Our family loved our visit to the plantation. Our tour guide, Beverly, taught us more about the Louisiana Purchase, the influence of French culture, revolt of 1811 and the importance of the time era than we had ever learned.  It was a beautiful sunny day - great visit with beautiful scenery. ♥️ Highly recommend this tour to visitors.

I really enjoyed the Oak Alley Plantation tour it was a great addition to the trip. I went with my husband and we both enjoyed it. Will definitely go back again.

Excellent

We loved this tour. I have three boys (ages 12, 11, & 6) who really got a lot out of this (the older ones more than the younger one) and enjoyed learning about the history. The house was gorgeous and the tour guide was so good and full of knowledge. It really was one of the highlights of our trip.

History tour

The museum was excellent. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I believe, it was self-guided. I'm glad, as there was a certain member in my group that I wanted to keep away from. My only complaint is the actual bus that took us there. It was very uncomfortable with rattling windows that prevented me from being able to hear the video that was playing. Closed captioning would have been helpful. I initially got on a different Grayline charter headed to Oak Alley and it was a far better appointed bus. Given that the travel distance to each location is similar, I don't understand why Whitney had the crappy bus.

The plantations were beautiful and the tour guides were very knowledgeable! Some of the horrific details of our American past are often overlooked or accepted as "that was how things were." The Laura Plantation tour covers the reality of slave life on the Southern plantations and the wrongdoing that was committed. Learning history increases our knowledge, and knowledge is power. Hopefully we as humans use this power to not repeat the wrongdoings of the past.

Oak Alley and Laura Plantation Combo a great experience

It’s a must for everyone especially in the hotter months to experience just a tiny speck of what the slaves felt! I was very put off that they offered weddings and overnights where so many were miss treated and abused. But as I stated above everyone should see and feel how disturbing these plantations were operated. I wish they talked less about how rich the owners and families were and more  memorials of the slaves that were sold like commodities and abused.

Very somber

The tour was the crown jewel of our New Orleans trip. The grounds and building were stunning, but the content of the tour itself was incredible. Our guide, Pam, interwove stories about the house, the owners, and the enslaved people held there. It felt like we were on a walk-through movie and made the tour a million times more valuable for her contextualizing the lives, decisions, and experiences within the time frame. She provided information on everything from family drama to illegally selling the children of slaves to how the homes were build and maintained over time to the process of harvesting and grinding sugar cane, creating a cohesive narrative that was informative, educational, and funny despite the frequently awful subject matter. I can’t recommend this tour enough!!!

We were picked up from our Hotel and driven to plantation in comfortable tour bus.  Our Guide Dionne was very informative. Explaining all the sites on our way. Gave us plenty of time to walk around the plantation so we didn’t feel rushed.  Would recommend this tour.

First start our driver was excellent. I didn't get her name but I would definitely request her again. She was knowledgeable about the area called German Coast and knowledgeable about the city of New Orleans. She was just wonderful. I loved the Hotel pickup/drop-off Tripshock provides. This was my first time visiting New Orleans and Tripshock made it so convenient with their accommodations of Hotel pickup. I will definitely use Tripshock again for my next trip. Thank you.

Dionne, guide, was amazing. Shared so many interesting facts the 45 minute drive flew by.  She took the time to explain so much as we traveled - learned a lot.  the plantation tour was an audio recording, very well done, and extremely informative - I was moved to tears by the experience.   HIGHLY RECOMMEND the tour and our guide was the BEST!

We really enjoyed the tour. Very knowledgeable driver, funny and entertaining. The information given at the plantation was an eye opener and very emotional.

Great tour

Booking the trip through tripshock was easy, convenient, and allowed us to save money off the price of the excursion. The driver - Brian - was great. We were picked up and dropped off on time. The tour itself was really informative. However, our group was combined with additional people once we arrived at the plantation, so about 30 of us toured the plantation together, and that made hearing the tour guide challenging at times. The guide would often start speaking before everyone could filter into room that she was describing. The guide was a great source if information - it just was logistically difficult to hear all of the info provided. We specifically chose a shorter tour (ie one plantation, half day), but in hindsight, we wish we would have had a bit more time to tour the grounds.
Oak alley, or any plantation tour, is definitely an experience I would recommend. And I would definitely book through tripshock again as the price savings and good customer service were worth it!
