ONLINE SPECIAL: Save 20% when you book this tour between 1/5 - 2/28!

An eyewitness account of the events surrounding the most devastating natural - and man-made - disaster on American soil! Learn the history of the original city, the French Quarter, and why it was built at this particular location along the Mississippi River. We'll drive past an actual levee that "breached" and see the resulting devastation that displaced hundreds of thousands of U.S. residents. The direct connection between America 's disappearing coastal wetlands, oil & gas pipelines, levee protection and hurricane destruction will be explained. Your tour guide will give a "local's" chronology of events leading up to Hurricane Katrina and the days immediately following the disaster. This tour will travel through neighborhoods such as Lakeview, Gentilly, New Orleans East, St. Bernard, and the Ninth Ward. You'll be amazed at the volume and variety of products "offloaded" in the multimodal port of New Orleans , the second largest port in the country, and then distributed to your hometown. On the shores of Lake Pontchartrain visit the New Basin Canal Lighthouse destroyed by Katrina but reconstructed and reopened in 2013. Your guided tour of this museum offers a bird’s eye view of the area, including the levees along the lakefront and, in the distance, the longest bridge over water in the world, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. After visiting the Levee Memorial Gardens, we’ll make a brief stop in City Park, where you may visit either the Morning Call Café or the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. After this tour, you'll have a better understanding of events pre and post Katrina and the "Rebirth of New Orleans!"

    Hurricane Katrina tour

I really appreciated the tour. The tour guide was a native of New Orleans and really understood the flood and the implications. I felt Daniel did an excellent job. I liked his passion for history. I do suggest in the future that you could have a 15 minute video we could watch before the tour. Show us like the breaching of the levy and the water around the Super Dome.

Daniel will be glad to know your reaction to his tour. It is the history of our city, at its best and its worst. Thank you for the input on the video. We had a short one taken from news coverage but received mixed reviews, but I will be sure to share this with the guides.

I am not a "tour bus" kinda gal, but I took a chance on a Katrina tour this afternoon with some friends and was wowed. Bruce Nolan was an amazing guide. He was a local reporter during the hurricane and his first hand account of the storm and the aftermath was chilling. His stories were fascinating, disturbing and uplifting. I highly recommend it if you'll be in New Orleans in the future.

Absolutely fabulous tour. The tour guide is the MOST important part of a tour and ours was soooooooo good.....knowledgeable; stayed on topic; knew first-hand sooooooo many facts....was able to keep it on a level we could all understand; great communicator. I was here during Katrina (moved to Biloxi for 3 years after) but never knew as much about the storm as I wanted to. Thank you and him for a wonderful 3 hour.
