    Racial prejudice on boat

My family and I did not have a good experience. We were subjected to racial prejudice. After dinner, my family together with a white family of five that sat next to us were moved to an alternate side of the boat. About an hour later the same white family went and helped themselves to a second round of buffet and desserts. The wait staff (mainly black staff) happily served them. Fifteen minutes later I went and asked the same wait staff if I could have a bowl of soup. They gave it to me. Even before I got to my seat, an Asian wait staff who had been standing by the buffet tables and did nothing as the white family served themselves pursued me and embarrassingly admonished me for taking the soup. The embarrassment didn't end there - she went ahead to retrieve the soup bowl. I asked her if I... read more

  • Management Response, about 3 months ago

We are so terribly sorry to hear about your experience and have contacted the Steamboat Natchez so that they can address the issues immediately. We typically receive great reviews for this excursion, so to hear this type of feedback is uncommon as well as troubling. I will be contacting you directly regarding their response, but please let me know if there is anything else we can do in the meantime. Kind regards, TripShock! Guest Service Manager

    Great dining experience

The food was amazing and the jazz band was Great! All of the staff did an awesome job. Very polite and attentive. We did this on our first night in New Orleans and it couldn't have been a better way to start our vacation! Highly recommend this steamboat!

    A Bit of NOLA History

The Steamboat Natchez is a great touristy activity to do while in New Orleans. The history of the steamboat and being on the steamboat is nostalgic. We opted for the dinner cruise. The food was good but the usual buffet expectations. The jazz band was also good but would have preferred some blues. I’m definitely glad that we signed up for this experience.

    Been there, done that!

It was OK! The food was mediocre; the band was good, but took many breaks.

This was my first trip to New Orleans for my birthday. Had an amazing time on the trip. Would definitely recommend this tourist option to anyone traveling to New Orleans. The food was mind-blowing. The jazz band was spectacular. Wonderful memories I will have for a lifetime.

    Steamboat Dinner Cruise

The cruise was enjoyable. We'd recommend doing the earlier dinner seating so that you're inside eating while the ship is docked, then you can enjoy the jaunt down the river after you eat, and once the skyline is lit up. Food was delicious. View was beautiful.

    An interesting, relaxing cruise.

Overall, my husband and I really enjoyed the Steamboat Natchez Jazz Cruise without dinner. It was relaxing and comfortable. Guests are able to check out the "engine room" which we both found very interesting. My only suggestion is that the amazing jazz band play more. After all it is marketed as a JAZZ Cruise.

    Enjoyed the cruise

Food was good, but not the true southern food experience I had hoped for (jambalaya, gumbo, etc). The jazz music was really good. The scenery was not a reason for taking the cruise since it is mostly an industrial area. But I enjoyed the experience.
