Take a full day trip deep into the sugar cane fields of south Louisiana to see two different perspectives of plantation life with this double plantation tour of Whitney Plantation & Slavery Museum and St Joseph Plantation. Known for its focus on slavery, the Whitney Plantation unveils the truth lived by enslaved people. Walk through the grounds to see the various plantation structures, gardens, artifacts, and artwork that pay homage to the plight of the enslaved. St. Joseph Plantation is a Creole-style, family-owned, working sugar cane plantation in operation since 1877. The tour guide will give guests a great glimpse into the daily lives of slaves and owners in 1800s as family members personally guide many of the tours. Both of these destinations offer beautiful plantation homes, unique stories, and first-hand narratives of pre-civil war life in the south.

Convenient Historic Plantation Tour

On a very nice day we were picked up at our hotel exactly on time. We started our maiden voyage in a spotless new van. LA safety requirements were enforced. Our driver Gisele was an informative historic buff, who tells history and stories in a delightful French accent. Although a 50-minute ride, I enjoyed the perspective of LA outside the city, skirting along the Mississippi River. The dbl Whitney/St Joseph Plantation tour gave two perspectives (inside and out). The personal and audio guides gave us Lots to learn. Lots to see. The St Joseph Plantation was especially moving with its dedication to education on slave history. The package tour pace was perfect and after a long, and wonderful day we were safely returned to the front door of our hotel. I found it well worth the money.
