Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum Visitors Guide

The Camp Walton Schoolhouse Museum is located in the heart of downtown Fort Walton Beach, and has been educating its guests on local history since opening as a museum in 1976. This museum dives deep into the history of education in the area, and the city as a whole, specifically from 1911 until the 1930’s. Not only that, the building itself is a historic structure, and was actually the first school ever created for the children of Fort Walton Beach, which was then called Camp Walton.

The school was created using native pine and oak in 1911, and opened for business in 1912. At this time, there were 15 students and one teacher in attendance, with eight grades being taught in a single-room school! Another room was added in 1927 for high school students and their teacher. The school closed in 1936, but has been providing deeper insight into the local history and culture ever since.
